MY TRIP TO GUYANA....2016

I finally made it to Guyana this year {last time I was there was 2014} I went for my Grandmothers 92nd birthday and she’s just a riot! I’ve been going to Guyana since I was 9mths but this trip I had a few FIRST! My 12 year old dog Avi finally accompanied me on this trip and the 1st American Franchise hotel “Marriott” has been completed and not only did I check it out, but I’m going to tell you all about it.

MARRIOTT
I love the use of orb light fixtures in their Great Room! My favorite think about orb light fixtures is that it adds a presence to the room without feeling like there is major weight above you.

It’s the closest you’ll probably get to being under the stars. It illuminates yet still feels airy and open.

Below are a few examples of how orb light fixtures can be used in your home or apartment.

 BOTANICAL GARDENS
I love being in nature especially luscious green plants and being near water. Georgetown, Guyana was well known as being the “Garden City” now they may not have lived up to the name over the last few decades, but guess what folks! The Garden City is BACK!!!

ADVENTURES OF AVI

This was the first time Avi has left the country and let me tell you he absolutely loved it. The flicks below will explain some of his journey!
Avi poolside waiting to meet a few ladies {he’s not fixed} single + ready to mingle.

Taking in the ocean breeze…

He loved sitting on the veranda to people {dog} watch…

They really enjoyed each other and that bunny eventually followed Avi around the back yard all day.

Avi waiting on me {and watching me} while I run into a convenience store.

Poolside at a Reggae show…Yep! Avi enjoyed that as well.

GRANNY CHRONICLES

My Grandmother + Grandfather started a General Hardware store in Guyana. {My Uncle now runs the store} They actually started out refinishing furniture. I grew up around great well-made early 1900’s 1940’s furniture. In addition to that my Grandmother was the ultimate homemaker. She is very into keeping a home, entertaining guest and creating a memorable experience when entertaining.
She’s now 92 and I feel so lucky to be able to still get advice and tips from her today!

Here my grandmother is wearing her wedding + engagement ring from circa 1942-1944. Instead of a stone she she had a gold nugget on her band. I’ve always thought that was a pretty awesome idea for a ring or engagement ring today.

I love these shoes but my Mom always makes fun of me and tells me how they are old lady shoes. Well, I guess she was correct because my 92-year-old grandmother raved about them every time she saw me wearing them. I figured, why not have her try them on and have a fashion moment. I was so shocked to see that it fit her like a glove! Coco Chanel has a quote I love. “Fashion fades only style remains the same.” With that said I hope you enjoyed the highlights of my trip as much as I enjoyed sharing them with you.
